The human physiology and biological functioning are no less than a wonder. Anger management comes in the domain of emotional intelligence. Although like all living organisms the major structure for the human body and biological functioning is the same, yet each is a unique combination of different characteristics. It is one of the superiority of humanity that each and every member of this regime is highly identical as well as utterly unique at the same time.
Many of you may be thinking that how being equal and unique is possible at the same time. If we look at the internal body function and biological facts the major outline or structure, upon which the average human body system is built, remains almost same for all people around the world. But when you start depicting the uniqueness, the list is endless. The genetic makeup and the pattern of characteristics for every individual is a unique set for millions of humans around the world.
This uniqueness is more like part of an individual’s personality. That is why human beings differ from one another; even the children of same parents vary with another. This is where character comes into play. Not all individuals have the same combination for every trait and with different levels of multiple features every person makes up a unique personality. There can be similarities between the two persons who rank the same on an individual level for a trait.
These facts become more important when the study subject become the humans. This is why sociologists and psychologists claim that experimenting in humans is the most difficult of all. It is because based on their intelligence, wisdom, experience and internal feedback systems humans have the capacity to alter and change their responses, for the same stimuli. The answers may vary depending upon the analysis of the surrounding. The phenomenon if personality is widely being considered in the area of human resource management. It is because every organisation is thriving to achieve the best possible talent for it. In this quest, they want to analyse each and every individual of their team to possess the best possible traits, which can not only affect the organisation’s growth but will also help the person to grow emotionally and mentally. It is because the well-being of employees is ultimately depicted in the balance sheet figures of a person. I came to know about all this while I was reading a human resource blog. But how my interest developed in reading this material. It is after a diagnostic incident which made me rise that I need a through working on my personality and behaviour. Its importance becomes twofold when you are working in a large company and especially on group projects.
A few months back our company audit was in progress. Everyone in the office was quite busy, or you can say fatigued. The review team was asking for records and files, and everybody was dead busy. I was working on my system when one of my colleagues in a rush to open the cupboard got tripped over me. I was having a coffee cup by my side, and it all spilt over my table.
Although he was not intentional in doing so yet, I became too furious. My voice crossed the limits and all of the colleagues gathered. My manager came, with whom there was a team member of the audit committee. They handled the situation and calmed me down. After few minutes of this incident when I sat again on my personal computer I felt embarrassed. I surely overreacted. Although it was not his fault yet he was apologising and should not have yelled at him. But then I realised that the stress of audit along with work pressure mixed up to make me behave in this way. My anger crossed the limit, and there came a stage where I let it spill out as it is. I was unable to “manage” myself.
The audit committee penned certain amendments as well improvements. The HR head suggested for an anger management at workplace caring for r all those who are believed to be angrier at work. For me and many other it seemed insulting in the start, but again we realised that we were unable to “manage” our anger. Anger is a temporary state of mind in which a person became furious. Their reaction to this mental state can be in the form of the scream, loud voice or even beating. All these are unacceptable behaviours at work. But these are the realities of human nature which the experts of human resource management have accepted. Now the modern notion of anger management state that anger is a temporary phase of mind and people can be made to deal with this state of mind through different drills and activities. Anger is not a trait; it is just the absence of control. But the human body is based on the excellent ability of flexibility so people can be easily made to manage this state if mind.
It is a trait of an individual who can understand and depict one’s emotions, moods, and feelings. Managing the emotions is an essential part needed at the workplace. It is because a single employee will be involved with so many other people around that his behaviours can affect others. I have also undergone through the whole practice of anger management, and now after just a few months I feel much improvement. Not only me, but my colleagues have also mentioned this visible change.
Anger management must be taken as an essential tool for humans because they are social creatures. None of us can live in isolation. We cannot leave those alone, who become angry too quick. All we can do is to manage this through effective anger management.
